Model United Nations at Lincoln

Every year Lincoln hosts their annual Model United Nations and this year was no difference.

It happened on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 of November and it was based on the Security Council. The topics were to which were the Effectiveness of Sanctions and Nuclear Disarmament.

On Friday the session started by having a time in which delegates will talk to each other, negotiate and eventually merge resolutions for both topics. Later that evening the council had a guest speaker how was Pedro Americo Furtado de Oliveira who is the Chief of the ILO (International Labour Office) in Argentina. During the first hours of debate on Friday night two resoultions about the first topic that was about the sanctions. The debate was intense since some countries were roasting others but finally the sesion conclude with a resolution that satisfied the expectatives of most of the countries in the room.

On Saturday the session started by having an unmoderated debat in which delegates were able to finish merging resolutions and giving them last minute touches. Later on during the debate a crisis came in. The crisis was that they found a nuclear suitcase in the coasts of South Korea, later on the situation escalated into a war between South and North Korea and also a war between Pakistan and India, however the delegates handled the situation preveinting such wars. The session ended with a speech from a person from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
